HALCOMBE.
WOMEN’S DIVISION BIRTHDAY. In spite of the rain and much sickness, there was quite a good crowd at the Jubilee Hall, Halcombe to celebrate the 4th. birthday of the Hal-combe-Ivakariki branch °t le W.D.F.U. with a dance and cards. Everything went with a swing. A speecli welcoming the numerous visitors was made by Mrs Barnett, president of the branch. Following the ,serving of a bountiful supper, the cane, wlncli was the centre of attraction, being made by Mrs Brett, and beautifully iced in pink with candles to match by a junior member, Miss Erne McEennan, has cut up and handed round after Miss M. Mason (junior president), with a few well elioscn words, had lit the candles and Miss E. McLennan (junior secretary) had blown them out. The following ladies also assisted in cutting the cake while conveying greetings : Mrs Revell (Koeke), Mrs Low (Marton) and Mrs W. Davies (Halcombe Women’s Institute) Mrs Schaeren then read a number of apologies for unavoidable absence, among these being Mrs Wickham (Dominion president), Mrs Harris (president) of Wellington Central provincial executive), Mrs Duncan Simpson (Marton). Winners of the euchre were presented with their prizes as follow: Men. Mr W. McLennan 1: ladies’ Mrs Pnske 1; consolation. Mr Paske and Mrs Gow. The novelty dance prizes were won by Mr and Mrs Duckling in the Monte Carlo lucky chain waltz winners being Miss M. McNae and Mr L. Revell. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr W 7. E. Barnett, president of the Farmers’ Union.
