COAL RESTRICTION.
BIG LOSS TO MINERS
Received August 30, 11.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 30.
Declaring that the miners were voluntarily sacrificing thousands of pounds daily in wages by deliberately restricting their supplies, the chairman of the Northern Colliers’ Association (Mr J. C. McGann) to-day said that there was already a serious shortage of coal, and the export trade was threatened.
The Coalminers’ Convention decided on August 11 to order the restriction of output of coal from all mines and so prevent the accumulation of stocks by gas companies, railways and other large official and private undertakings.
