NAILED TO CROSS.

EX-CONVICT’S PLIGHT. RENO, Aug. 27. A passing motorist to-day found Edward Collins, a former convict, naked and nailed to a rough wooden blood-coated cross lying at the roadside with spikes driven in his hands and one through both feet. Collins told the police that two former prison associates of his, “Swede” and “Dago,” had met him coming from a church meeting and compelled him at pistol point to steal some lumber and then to strip and stretch upon a cross which they made, “just like Christ,” because he refused to “pull some jobs” with them. They poured kerosene over his clothes, burnt them and fled. Collins has been taken, to hospital, where he is expected to recover.
