ASSOCIATION CODE

MANAWATU COMPETITION. ELIMINATION CUP MATCHES. The first round of the senior elimination cup series was played at the North Street Park, on Saturday afternoon, under the aegis of the Manawatu Football Association. Good displays of the code were given. Results were:— St. Andrew’s 4 v. Rovers 1; Thistle 3 v. Y.M.C.A. 1. WIN FOR THISTLE. Despite the fact that the final score in the Thistle-Y.M.C.A. match went in favour of the former side, Y.M.C.A., although a man short, played the more spectacular and aggressive game. The teams were:—

Thistle. Kcmpson, Crowe, G. Downes, Moore, Watson, Stewart, Petersen, Miller, Harvey, Hearsey, T. Downes.

Y.M.C.A.—Ward, Brougham, Petrie, Davidson, Reifer, Harkness, Dingwall, .Boucher, Andrews, Rickard.

The first goal was secured by Thistle soon after the commencement. Ward left his goalmouth in an endeavour to save. He kicked the ball, but it rolled off bis boot between the posts. Well supported by Stewart, Peterson invaded and from a melee just outside Y.M.C.A.’s penalty area he shot, making no mistake. There were no further goals before the half-time whistle. An unexpected goal came off Riefer’s boot just after the change-over. It looked as though the defence would be too strong for him, but, shooting from an awkward angle, he was able to goal. Up and down play ensued for a considerable time until Hearsey shot the last goal of the game after taking the leather up the centre. Mr S. J. Bennett refereed. ST: ANDREW’S v. ROVERS. Remarkable in that three of the four goals scored by St. Andrew’s were beaded into the net, the match between St. Adrew’s and Rovers was a thrilling one. The teams were as follow, those who scored having the number of goals given in parentheses : St. Andrew’s.—Chilton, Broughton, Turner, McSheffery (1), Lyon, L. Petersen, Smillie (1), Bell, W. Young (1), A. Young (1), Horn. Rovers.—Fairclough, Laing, Bennett, P. Kendall, Anderson, Arlidge, Young, Blummont, F. Hart, Armstrong (1), C. Hart., The referee was Mr G. Houston. RESULTS ELSEWHERE.
