DROWNED IN RIVER.

Per Press Association. HOKITIKA, Aug. 27. James Thomas Victor Cooper, aged 19, a son of Mr Joseph Cooper, after delivering a load of coal across tlie river, attempted to cross the main stream of the Hokitika River instead of going round by the- road and the bridge. He found the water too deep and attempted to turn back but the dray capsized and he was thrown out and drowned. The horse was also drowned in 20 feet of water. The body has not been recovered.
