FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Aug. 26. Miss Joan Barron, of Robinson Street, left for Wellington to-day, where she will compete in the Wellington Competition' Society’s Festival. Miss Barbara Staff, of Wellington, is spending the holidays' with Mr and Mrs G. Scadden, of Norbiton Road. Mrs H. M. Klein) of Lyndhurst Street, Palmerston North, is visiting her brother, Mr S. E. Gowley, and Mrs Cowley, of Main Street. Much interest was taken in the wedding of Audrey Mary, second daughter of Mr and Mrs D. R. Barron, of Foxton, to Arthur Kendrick, only son of Mr and Mrs F. Maidens, of Taradale, Hawke’s Bay, which was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church, on Saturday evening last. The ceremony was performed by Rev. P. McG. Murray, 'assisted by Rev. V. Thomas, of Wanganui. In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Joan Barron (sister of the bride) and Miss Clare Douglas (Havelock North). Mr T. Shirley, of Christchurch, was best man and the gToonfsnjan was Mr J. Rowland, of Wellington. The ushers at the Church were Messrs A. Easton and L. C. Davey. The opening ceremony in connection with St. Mary’s Church bazaar took place last evening when the Masonic Hall was well filled with patrons. Rev. Father Foley introduced the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) who officiated. Mr Perreau referred to the object of the effort, to raise funds for the Brigidine Qonvent and to enable a new church to be erected as a memorial to the late Father Dore, who had been popular and well loved by parishioners and townfolk alike and whose untimely death had been a loss to the community. At a committee meeting of the iFoxton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, Mr J. Grant was elected a vice-president, Mill. D. Dawson, starter and Mr F. Carniont, timekeeper. Mr W. Swan was elected club captain, Mr G. 11. Hinds to the comimttee and Mr E. J. Jackson was appointed auditor. It was decided that Messrs G. P. Smith, 11. D. Dawson and R. O. Hornblow confer with the Borough Council regarding laying down a track on Easton Park.
On Wednesday a Takapu Golf Cup match was played, Foxton winning by six games to two. The following is the result, Herrington players being mentioned first: —Mrs M. B. Bergin beat Mrs Nicholson, Miss A. Neylon lost to Miss M. Harper, Mrs S. E. Crawford beat Mrs Simcox, Miss G. Neylon beat Miss Swainson, Miss E.. Barber beat Mrs Derham, Miss J. Bowe lost to Mrs Sutherland, Mrs R. Robinson beat Mrs Kilminster, Mrs 11. Hannay beat Miss Reed.
