BAINESSE.
(From Our Own Correspondent). BA lis ESSE, Aug. 26. A pleasant afternoon was spent at the school prior to the end of term break up, when parents and friends were entertained by the children. An enjoyable, programme was presented, the following taking part: Chorus, “Road to the Isles, “Western "Men”: play, “The Poll llial Talked Too Much,” Standard 2. Recitation, “The Lumbermen,” Eileen Ryan; play, “Keeping Shop,” Standard 1; song “Oh, for the Wings of a Dove,” ISola Thessman; folk dance, Standard 4; recitation, “The Torch of Life,” Ernest Scott; chorus, “Sing a Song of Sixpence, ’ juniors; play, “Amateur Detectives, boys; recitation, “Singing,” June Anderson; dance, “Cat’s Dance,” juniors; part song, “Oh, Hush Thee, My Baby,” girls; recitation, “Splendour Tails,” - Joyce lennant; song, “Chinese Fans, R' m ° r S l ?,’ play, “The Whisker,” standard 4 girls and “Wicked William”; song I Love to Whistle,” Eileen Ryan and chorus. Atternoon tea w.acj served, after which an interesting display of. the childrens work was inspected. Specimens of handwork wore well above the average. A vote ot thanks was passed to the teachers. At the School Committee’s final euchre and dunce, the prizewinners were Mrs J. Lcgg and Master J. Cook while the consolation prizes wore won by Miss' L. Cook and Mr Frcderickson. The points prizes were won by Mrs J. E. Anderson and Mr W. Scott, the second prizes being secured by Airs H. Cook and Air JX Saigisson. The music for the dancing was supplied by Alls IT. Cook, Miss J. Lcgg and'Air T. Crammer. Air A. C. Buchanan was M.C. ~ A card evening was held at the. residence of .Mr and Mrs C. Aiden. The rooms wore bright with cheery log fires, and a happy time was spoilt. Ping pong was indulged in by non-card players. Prizes were won Air and Mrs Fredorickson, consolation winners, being Mrs Hurst and Mr S. Ferguson. A vote ol' thanks to Air and Mrs Aidin was carried. Among those present wore Air and Airs Thessman, Air and Airs Frederickson, Air and Mrs Hurst (Ilongotea). Airs Cieland (Glen Oroua), Airs and Aliss Hitchings (Levin), Air and Airs Anderson (Foxton), Air E. Thompson (Himatangi), Mr S. Ferguson (Foxton),, Alessrs C. and F. Aidin (Foxton), Air F. Lcgg,' Aiaster B. Dewis; Miss At. Edlin (Ballance), Mr and Airs Ryan, Misses F. and Al. Legg. Aliss Clayton is spending the school vacation at Wanganui. Airs A. C. Buchanan is visiting her mother, Mrs Sowcry, at Nikau. Miss Betty Ryan, of Foilding, was a visitor to Bainessc during the week. Airs Brookc-Taylor has returned from a visit to the Waikato. Miss M. Edlin, of Ballance, is visiting her sister, Mrs C. Aidin, of “Afinaka.”
