FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

MANCHESTER UNITY, 1.0.0. F. At the quarterly summoned meeting of the Loyal Manawatu Lodge the District Grand Master (Bro. W. G. Nye) was present on an official visit. In acknowledging the honours of the order and welcome extended to him, Bro. Nye expressed his pleasure in meeting so many members and also in having the opportunity of witnessing the ritual of the initiation ceremony when two candidates were initiated into the order. The District Grand Master was called upon later to present Bro. M. Clow with a Past Officer’s Certificate on behalf of Loyal Egmont Lodge of the Taranaki, district.

Several members from Loyal Foxton Lodge were welcomed, P.G. Bro. Mudford replying. A letter acknowledging the donation made to the Friendly Societies’ Council was received. The Loyal Manchester Lodge extended an invitation to their installation of officers, and this was accepted, a list being opened by the transport officer. The secretary of Sister Wallis Lodge, Wellington, advised the date for the proposed visit of the Loyal Manawatu Lodge, the date being accepted. Members wishing to make the visit were requested to give in their names at the earliest opportunity. Bro. L. De Cleene presented the sick visitors’ report with special reference to several members of the order in hospital, and sister Doy reported on the condition of Bro. A. C. Doy. The lodge granted the loan of the sets of indoor bowls and carpets to the Friendly Societies’ Council for use at a tournament. It was decided to issue a challenge to Loyal Wanganui Lodge for the Salek Ritual Cup. The lodge was adjourned for a quarter of an hour during which time the opportunity was taken to extend the copper-trail collection for the Wellington visit fund. Bowls were enjoyfed by impromptu rinks composed of local and visiting members, and supper completed a pleasant evening.
