DIFFICULT YEAR.

FRUIT AND PRODUCE GROWERS.

The report to be presented to the annual meeting of the Manawatu Tomato, Berry, Fruit, Cut Flowers and Produce Growers’ Association by Mr A. W- Just (president) and Mr J. J. Hume (secretary) conveys thanks for the loyal co-operation of all members during the year, which Lad proved to be one of the worst yet owing to low prices ruling, while growers had been saddled with increased cost of production, proving a serious problem to the industry. “During the year seven committee meetings were held,” the report states. “Members of the committee were Messrs Just (president), Hume, G. Nairn, A. Matthews, F. Brock, Kinett and Casey. The industrial situation has proved one of the knotty problems of the year, and has been handled mainly by the Dominion council, the industrial committee of the association appearing before the Conciliation Council in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin. An award was made under the Agricultural Workers’ Act. A special meeting of growers of* the Wellington Province was held in the Hutt Valley to deal with questions of the registration of commercial growers, case or container charges, tomato pulp and berry pulp importations. The tenth annual Dominion conference was held in Wellington and proved to be one of the most successful yet held. The deliberations of that conference tend to

place the industry on a very much sounder basis for the producers of this Dominion.

“Our thanks are again due to Mr P. Hansen for his valued services as lion, auditor to this association. To the Press the thanks of the association are due for the very detailed reports of matters relative to the industry that hqve been made from time to time. Is conclusion, I wish to appeal to all commercial growers to become united, and Help the association to carry on the good work that has been done. We need’their shoulders at the wheel' to assist and entourage the committee in its multiplicity of voluntary duties.”
