CENTENNIAL GAMES.
AUCKLAND PROPOSALS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 25. An Auckland deputation which met representatives of sports bodies in Wellington to-night was assured of cooperation towards making the Auckland Centennial Games in January, 1940, a success. Details were given of overseas sports teams likely to be coinin'l' to New Zealand and assistance pioraised in securing the appearance of these teams at the games. In addition the meeting resolved to recommend fixing 1 dates for national championships which would avoid clashing with tlie Auckland festival. , T 1 A resolution moved by the UndeiSecretary of Internal Affairs (Mr J. W. Heenan) was as follows: ‘ That tins meeting recommends to various national associations that they co-operate in every possible wav with the Auckland Centennial Council in the holding of a series of centennial games in Auckland ; that national associations holding their Dominion championships in Wellington be recomended to fix their dates for such meetings as far as possible outside the period of January 16 to 20, 1940, during which the Auckland council desires to hold its games.” From indications given at the meeting it appeared that only bowling and yachting associations would -have any difficulty in avoiding a clash between the national events at the Auckland games. -
