POHANGINA VALLEY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA. Aug. 25. A perfect night, the brilliantly lit and decorated hall, the spirited music, and the throngs of happy guests all combined to mako the grand dance of the Pohangina. Valley branch of the National Party the high-light of the social 6eason. Held in the Pohangina Hall the function was one of the most successful, both numerically and socially, ever held in the valley. Over 250 were present, the gathering being representative of all the surrounding districts and including visitors from Palmerston North and Feilding. Strings of multicoloured electric lights stretched across the street outside the hall. Old-time favourites and modern numbers, , besides novelty dances, were included in a popular programme. The social committeo comprised Mesdames W. Howell, W. Smart, N. H. Moar, H. B. Clapham, A. Balmor, F. Wood, and J. D. Galvin, and they spared no effort in catering for the entertainment of their guests. To them every credit is due for the success of the function. l3firing the supper interval extra dances were contributed by Mr B, Edmondson, of Colyton. The M.C.’s were Messrs W. Howell, J. D. Galvin and G. Wagstaff. There was a fair attendance at the fortnightly euchre party held in thc,Pohan-« gina Hall. Mrs Harland and Mrs Wqod were the winners of the ladies’ trophies; in the men’s section Messrs L. Galvin and E. Brogden tied for first place, the former winning in the subsequent replay.
