CONFIDENCE IN DALADIER.
BEHIND GERMANY. FRENCH PRODUCTION LAGS. LONDON, Aug. 25. The Daily Telegraph’s Paris correspondent says that the Premier (M. Daladier), privately addressing the executive of the Radical Socialist Party, cited figures showing that French production is at present lagging behind Germany’s. A modification ot the 40-hour week was imperative to make up the leeway. He emphasised the dangers of a sterile discussion, pointing out that Germany had 2,000,000 men under arms. Her war strength would remain at this figure for three months. . Though not actually mobilisation, it was a sort or “mobilisation ..by anticipation,” giving Germany a flyng start in the event of international complications. The Government, therefore, was obliged to make the urgency of the situation clear to the public and emphasise that national defence must be placed before every other consideration.
