TRAMWAY DISPUTE
NEGOTIATIONS IN WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. The several matters in dispute between the Tramwaymen’s Union and the Tramways Committee of the City Council are to be discussed at a special meeting at as early a date as possible, the Mayor (Mr T. C. A. His--1 op) stated to-day. Ho met the president of the Union, together with a in ember ol : the executive, accompanied by the secretary and president. In reply to his statement that the committee would not accept threats, they said it was not their desire to threaten, but they felt it would be desirable, in view of the number. of matters to bo discussed, for a special meeting to he held at a date' mutually suitable. The Mayor explained to them that it was not possible for a meeting to be held this week, hut subject to it being possible to assemble the members of the committee during the next or the following week he would do so. The members of the committee are being communicated with to-day to see if a date can be arranged
