UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB
POPULAR BALL ENJOYED. Enthusiasm and thoroughness marked the work of the committee responsible for the United Football Club’s ball, held in the Empire Hall last night. The club colours—black and white—had, been combined in an unusual decorative scheme in the ballroom. Deep fringes of white paper were suspended across the ceiling and similar , fringes 1 of black were hung from one end to I the other, giving a chequered effect. I Between the fringes were bunches of gaily coloured balloons and the lights were hidden bv fringed shades of black and white. At intervals high on the walls were white shields bordered with black and lettered “United ICC.” in black. Below these were twisted festoons of black and white and paper fringes forming a frieze right round the room. Ferms and other greenery, tastefully arranged, added to the general effect. Above the centre of the stage was a white banner bordered with black fringe and bearing as a monogram “U.E.C.” Jardinieres, lidding greenery, stood on the stage. They were •covered with black paper tied with white. The back wall was concealed by deep blue hangings with a panel of silver in the centre. The supper room was also decorated with ferns and greenery, and festoons of brightly-coloured paper. On the tables were purple vases of cream and yellow spring bulbs, birch and other foliage. The supper was much enjoyed and streamers and novelties added to the gaiety afterwards. The committee members were Messrs G. Love (president), N. Sinclair, J. Robb, C. Francis, J. Barker, J.
