DAIRY FACTORY FIRE.
OUTBREAK AT PITZHERBERT. Discovered about 6 a.m. yesterday, when the manager of the Fitzherbert factory of the Kairanga Dairy Company" saw smoke issuing from a door, a fire in the curing room, in which cheeses were stored, did a fair amount of damage before it was brought under control by y bucket brigade. Neighbours were hastily summoned by the manager (Mr A. J. Crowe) and the factory water supply was drawn on to cope with the outbreak. The supply is fed by an artesian well and there was no lack of water once the organisation for drawing from it was set in motion. The flames damaged the cheese room structurally, but also ruined the timber of about. 80 cheese orates which - were stored in their flat state. It is believed that the scat of the fire was situated at that point, the flames also being assisted by the type of wood used in the crates.
