i When the Dannevirke Power Board [ was discussing the raising of a loan . of £35,000 for reticulation purposes. I Mr H. P. Horne (Woodville) asked ' whether this loan proposal eo.\’d not - he increased to allow for the reticulation of the Weber county. The chair- ' man explained that this was impos- ’ sible until some finality had been * reached with regard to the Weber ' guarantees and their petition to the ■ ’ Minister. He recapitulated . the steps leading up to the decision to send a deputation to the Government. In this ‘ regard Mr Horne maintained that “the ‘ board had adopted a peculiar attitude ’ in sponsoring sucfi a deputation, and that any such approach to the Govern- ‘ ment should have been made through j the board and not from outside. Mr ] Harding suggested that more help | might be forthcoming from the Gov- „ ernment that way than if they were c approached by the board. Mr Horne r persisted that the principle was bad H and that, if the Weber settlers were t helped by the Government, then those c listed in the estimate for the loan v should be able to expect the same privilege. The chairman asserted that v that would he a question fort the Min- v ister to decide, not the board, T In a challenge match on the Pahia- ® tua links, for the Nathan Cup, a T Woodville golf team suffered defeat by r six games to three. The local team com- r prised Stitt, Lagor, Norman, Barclay, r Robinson, R. Peebles, Hawkes, Hutch- C inson and Wylie. Gaines were won by t the first three named players. by the local women’s branch of the National Party were Mrs A. E. Dickins and Mrs G. B. de Ath, of Papat.awia and Kumeroa respectively. In moving at tho meeting of the Dannevirke Power Board that the chairman’s action in engaging tempoiary engineering assistance be confirmed, Mr E. Harding remarked that it might become necessary for the board to "permanently employ an assistant engineer.. The chairman said it would if "the demand for power continued as There was no formal celebration of Arbor Day at the local school but a quantity of shrubs were planted in the grounds a few days ago. Mr H. Hurdle, of the local District High School staff, is attending the agricultural'course at Massey College.
