MILITARY CROSS AWARD.
OFFICER’S BRAVERY IN INDIA. (British Official Wireless.) Received August 24. 1.5 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 23. The London Gazette announces that the King has approved of the award of the Militarv Cross to Lieutenant Godfrey Lerwill, of the 2nd Royal Battalion Ludhiana Sikhs, 11th Sikh Regiment, Indian Army, who is attached to the Tochi Scouts, for gallant and distinguished service in action in connection with operations on the north-west frontier of India. Lieutenant Lerwill was in command of, and sole British officer present, at an isolated scout post from May 10 until he was relieved on June 9. Large numbers of tribesmen between May 27 and June 6 attempted to besiege the post and hem in the garrison. Two night attacks were made. Lieutenant Xjerwill conducted u vig," orous and skilful defence, causing many enemy casualties.
