WELCOME RELIEF.

STEADY RAIN AT SYDNEY

Received August 22. 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 22.

Steady rain has fallen throughout the week-end and is still continuing. The registration on the Sydney catchment area is the highest since April, 1935.

It was reported on August 10 that Sydney’s water supply was getting so low that it was causing official anxiety. The shortage was duo to rainfall under the average for 18 months. Severe restrictions were being imposed, precluding the use of hoses for any purpose except fires. No new sewerage reticulations were allowed.
