FIRE DESTROYS HOME.
DISCOVERED TOO LATE. Discovered only when the flames were breaking through the roof, a twostorey residence of twelve rooms, the home of Dr K. Dean, in Victoria Avenue, was destroyed by fire at 10.40 a.m. yesterday. None of the contents of the dwelling was saved, but there is an insurance cover on the house and furniture. Half an hour after Dr Dean and his family had left for Foxton beach, Mr Franke, a resident of Albert Street, saw the flames coming through the roof, and telephoned the Fire Brigade, but when it arrived the outbreak had a strong hold on the eastern side of the wooden building. Three leads of hose were brought into use, but, before the outbreak could be got under control, the dwelling was completely gutted downstairs. It is believed that the fire had its origin close to the stairway.
