MOTORING FATALITY.
ELDERLY WOMAN’S DEATH. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 21. One Avomati Avas killed and three women Avere injured Avhen a motor-car in which they were travelling struck a telegraph pole in the Great South Road on Saturday afternoon. The victims Avere : KILLED. AIRS ELIZABETH AIUIII, aged 68, of l’apatoetoe. INJURED AIRS BARBARA KIRKBRIDE, aged 52, of Alangere, fractured ankle and shock Condition not serious. MISS MABEL EVELYN WILLS, aged 56, of Papatoetoe, concussion. Condition not serious. AIISS ADA K. WATSON, of Papatoetoe, abrasions.
The women Avere occupants of a large car Avhieli was travelling from the city parallel Avith an outAA'ard-bomid tramcar. The accident occurred Avhen a taxi proceeding in the same direction Avas passing between the car and the tram. Swinging to the left, the car mounted the footpath and struck a telegraph pole with considerable force, the engine being pushed back and the windscreen shattered.
Mrs Muir, who was driving was crushed against the wheel and her neck Avas broken. Mrs Kirkbride Avas sitting next to her in the front seat and Aliss AVills and Aliss Watson Avere occupying the back seat.
