rho winter meeting of the Wellington iauing Uiih was continued at Trontliain yesterday in fine but very cold weather, the track was heavy and holding. There was a fair attendance and the totalisator handled £46.546 10s. representing an inciennc of .13043 over the second day last year.

Features of the racing were surprise victories by Sweet Rose in the Members' Handicap. to pay a substantial dividend on the win machine, and King Mestor in the Corunna Hurdles. Tddo made all the running and was attended bv Warehi. handiest of the others being Lustra! aid Settlement. Irldo -dill held command as they ran into the straight and was challenged by Citric and Kilbcris on the outer, but none of these was able to come on and Warehi, with Lustral, eventually singled themselves out. Lustral on the rails gradually asserted superiority. Warehi hung on to beat a late run by Settlement. anrl these three finished well clear of the others. (Winner trained by owner, Taumarunui.) King Mestor was always fairly bandy to the leaders. Southern Blood, Black Man and Contract making the pace together. Contract fell at the seven furlongs and his place with the leaders was taken by Chaste. King Mestor was never later in any danger of defeat, his only risk coming from the riderless Contract, who jumped the last fence after swerving right across in front of him. However, King Mestor jumped safely and won easily from Southern Blood, who just as easily beat Chaste. Laggard did best of the others for fourth and then came Sunee and Middle. Chile and Kaliunokc made all the running together, giving a spectacular display over the fences. Chile begun to drop out over the last half-mile, Monastic making an attempt to get to Ivahunoke. However, he had no chance, and Kalittnoko won comfortably. Chile was a moderate third with Red Sun fourth.

Quadroon was always handy, and, after being up in the leading hunch for three or lour furlongs, he dropped in behind Monipere. .Monipcro carried on from a fairly well-bunched (iold until the straight, by which time only he. The field was lairly well bunched for a collide of furlongs, and then Sweet Rose ran to the front and the further they went the more pronounced became her superiority on the day. She was .followed into the straight by Haughty Winner, Gaily, Merial and To Hai, but there was never any prospect of her being overhauled and the won hv a big margain. Gaily ran on much bettor than the rest for second, with Tliala third and Merial fourth. The bunch was headed by Wagner and Matoru.

War Lap made the pace with Royal 'Lingo, Great Bramble, Earl Colossus, Sunbeam and The Wrecker, all well placed to the turn, where Gold Glare became very prominent. Once iri line Royal Tinge and Sunbeam drew away, the former finally ns.serting decisive superiority. Autosweep came with a strong run home for third, with Gold Glare fourth, then Ilamarin and tile rest well back.
