ADDRESS TO ACCOUNTANTS.
Mr M. F. Sponce, of Napier, president of the Now Zealand Society of Accountants, addressed about forty members of the Palmerston North branch on Thursday. A number of visitors from Wanganui were present. The speaker briefly reviewed several matters relative to the society’s activities, and spoke on the presentation of account. Mr A. E. Mansford presided and with him was associated Mr it. Davis, During the course of his remarks Mr Spence Jaid that accountants were the most, qualified persons to serve on public bodies, particularly those dealing with financial matters. “I think it is a national duty for them to do so. Accountants should take a keen interest in public bodies,” lie said. “Man v people who serve on public bodies fad to comprehend the intricate accounts and for that reason accountants can he of assistance on city councils, harbour boards and so on.”
The speaker also expressed the hope that the day would come when practical experience would ho necessary for membership of tho society.
