A crowd which had been estimated at 75,000 had gathered at Westminster, London, in connection with a suffragettes’ demonstration. M. Clemenceau’s Bill to abolish capital - punisrment had been withdrawn in the French Chamber. The export of gold from New Zealand in six months had been 254,815 oz. of a value of £1,007,971. While H.AI.S. Britannia had been carrying out a power trial, supplementing the use of coal with oil fuel sprayed on the flaming coals by means of steam injectors, a boiler had exploded suddenly and two stokers and one able seaman had been killed.
