LANDING REPULSED. • SHANGHAI. June 30. The Chinese holding Matang forts are still clinging to their positions despite the mud walls crumbling under the Japanese artillery and naval bombardment.

The spokesman claims that the Chinese repulsed Japanese landing parties, shells from the big guns directly hitting the steel pontoons which were packed with troops. Other pontoons were blown up by mines.
