DISTRICT COMMITTEE. HUCOEKHFUL A (111 IE V F.MENTS. Tho vi,:,;-ch:tirman (Mr E. W. Barnotf) presided at it meeting of tho jMaimwiitu District Committoo of the Young Farmers’ Clubs yesterday. Other members present wore; Messrs VV. J. (JrouehoF, A. G. Dear, It. 0. Uloyn, (J. J. Jiamblyn, A. W. Hud son, F. J 5. Sherwood, K. Ferguson, 11. M. Liiiklater, J. B. Chrystall, G. S. Robinson,-. VL C. Lewis and J. K. flight. A vote of sympathy was extended to the chairman (Mr if. .J. Laneaster), who is still in the hospital. The members of the committee wished him a speedy recovery. Mr A. E. Bhand, o i Palmerston North, who is working in co-op oration with tho A. ami P. Association in connection with fat lamb competitions, forwarded particulars of a new class in tho Bpring Bhow for fat lambs, the class to lie confined to members of Young Farmers’ Clubs. Tho matter was held over until the next meeting.

The organising secretary of the Young Farmers’ Clubs wrote requesting an outline of the programme for the district in connection with the tour of (51) members of _ Canterbury Young Farmers’ Clubs. ’lmitative arrangements were made for a visit to Massey College on Tuesday afternoon, July 12, and on Wednesday, July 111, to visit fat lamb fitrms in the Kniranga. Tlie matter of entertainment of the visitors was left in the bands of the chairman and secretary.

The secretary of the Manawafu 'Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club wrote congratulating the committee on the outstanding success of the recent “Cavalcade of Agriculture.” The thunks of tlie Jersey breeders was also conveyed Lo the committee for their co-opera-tion in connection with the combined social evening held recently. “It was a pleasure to trie to meet so many members ol the clubs during my visit to Palmerston North, wrote the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. Mr Crouchcr reported to tlic eomrm’ttcc regarding tlic recording rnado in Wellington of Ins description of flic “Cavalcade of Agriculture.” wliicli is to lie presented from the national radio station in that city on Saturday. Mr Crouchcr was accorded a vote of thaiiLs lor his report. Mr Crouchcr suggested the report should ho made into a booklet as a souvenir, linking the two ages of agricultural development. The proceeds from the sales of copies could go towards the Mt. Stewart Memorial Fund. Mr Robinson was of the opinion that most of the young farmers would he keen on having a record of this kind, and moved that a booklet he published at a .cost of .Cf arid sold at sixpence per copy, with an output of about 3000 conies. Mr Chrystall suggested that one or two photographs should he incorporated in the hook. Mr Crouchcr supported Mr Chrystall, and said the object was not one of making money, lint merely a gesture of young farmers of to-day in recognising the work of the young farmers of yesterday. Mr Hsmblyii said arrangements were being made l»« the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition organisers to produce a similar cavalcade at the exhibition, and the Young Fanners’ Clubs might he asked lo eo-oporato.

A sub-committee comprising Messrs Harnett, Robinson, Crouchcr and Chrystall. was set up to go into the matter of producing the booklet in an attractive condition. Mr Calpm moved that a letter of appreciation he forwarded to those who supplied implements arid assisted in staging the cavalcade and this was carried.

Mr Sherwood reported on the sevon--a-side Rugby tournament held at the Show.

Thanks were accorded all’ who had charge of the various functions during the Show Week.

Mr 11. Vile, of Apiti, had presented a shield for debating competitions Lo be held between teams from the Young Farmers’ Club throughout the district. The presentation was made on condition that the subjects debated should Ik; of interest to farmers. Mr Robinson’s proposal that the competitions he instituted immediately was curried .

A proposal that the matter ol inaugurating a district stock judging competition should he referred to a sub-committee was carried. Mr Harriett stated that a district judging corn petition should be held and finalised before the date of the Royal Show. Mr Hamlilyn explained that provision was being made to have the competition alternately in the North anti South Islands. Mr Oalpin, speaking in connection with a shearing competition, moved that each competitor would have to shear three sheep, with a prize of 0. A separate prize for speed in shearing would lx) offered. Fleece rolling is to ixi included in the competition. Mr Chrystall said that the competition should be confined to members of Young Farmers’ Clubs who wore of six months’ standing. Mr Hudson said that in order to safeguard the members of the clubs the length of membership should be at least one year. Such a course would prevent professional shearers from taking part in the competition just for tlio sake of the prize money. An amendment, that mein hern who, during the past twelve months, have attended at least six monthly meetings, lx; permitted to compote, was carried. The question of the conditions of the competition was left in the hands of the sub-committee previously appointed, with the addition of Messrs Oalpin and Hudson.
