PERSONAL.
The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) proposes to take relaxation from the - session with a strenuous programme at- Auckland next weekend. He leaves Wellington on Friday night by train. After opening the new Orakei School on Saturday afternoon, Mr Savage will see portion of a League football match. Early in the evening he will attend a . Labour Party function, witnessing a wrestling match at nine o’clock, and afterwards attending another social gathering of' the Labour Party.
The death has occurred in Whangarei of Mr Julius Maurer, aged 73. Mr Maurer was born in Switzerland and there learned the trade of watchmaker. As a young man die went to South America, and followed his trade at Buenos Aires. Later, he ’moved to Australia', where he married, and in 1902 he came to New Zealand. For four .years he lived in Palmerston North, and in 1906 went to Wliangarei setting up in business as a watchmaker and jeweller. Mrs S. Alcock, of Palmerston North, is a daughter of the late Mr Maurer.
The Manawatu Christian Endeavour has decided to send Rev. Raymond Simpson as its delegate to the world conference of the Christian Endeavour movement to be held in Melbourne from August 2 to August &. Mr Simpson is a vice-president both of the New Zealand Christian Endeavour Union and the Manawatu body, and will leave Auckland on July 26. He will be away for about three weeks and it is likely that various ministers of the Congregational Church in Wellington will visit ‘Palmerston; North during the week-ends to provide supply for the Congregational Church here during Mr Simpson’s absence.
