LATE MR GOODBEHERE.

TRIBUTES TO MEMORY

Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr E. Goodbehere was expressed by the chairman (Mr A. J. Humphreys), at the monthly, meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last evening.

Mr Humphreys said that Mr Goodbehere had been a foundation member of the chamber, which had been formed 40 years ago. A motion of sympathy w y as passed, members standing in silence out of respect to the memory of a gentleman w r ho not only had taken an interest in the-chamber, but had also been prominent in most activities of the town.

Yesterday the Mayor of Feilding (Mr T. L. Seddon) said the late Mr Goodbehere could be regarded as the “grand old man” of Feilding, a sterling citizen whose conception of duty was on the lines of honourable intention to all. On behalf of the Feilding Jockey Club, Mr J. Graham said that the passing of Mr Goodbehere would create a breach in the ranks of the administrators of the club. Throughout his long and active life Mr Goodbehere had played a very prominent part in the club and had given it the benefit of his mature experience in racing affairs.

Mr C. Ha.usmann, president of the Oroua Bowling Club, said that the flags of both clubs were flow'll at halfmast as a tribute to the memory of Mr Goodbehere, who had identified himself most actively with bowling. He had done much to further its progress and was lcnow'n from one end of the Dominion to the other. His passing was deeply felt by all concerned a.nd ■would leave a gap in the ranks of club members and in those who had helped to make the Oroua Club what it was to-day. Mr Goodbehere, it will be recalled, received the King’s Jubilee Silver Medal in 1935, an 1 honour upon which he was warmly congratulated.
