WATERWINGS DEAD.
DAM OF MANY WINNERS.
The Absurd mare Waterwings died at Koatanui, near Wanganui, a few days ago. As she was carrying a filly foal by Spiral, one of the first of the Limond horses s crop, the loss is a severe one to the Koatanui stud. ' i Bred by Mr Currie and foaled in 1920, Waterwings, who was 18 years old, was a chestnut mare by Absurd from the Seaton Delaval mare Sea Klf, and she had dropped 10 foals at Koatanui. Nine of these were sold at an average of about 930 guineas, two of them topping the 2000 guincf’, mark. As recently as last January the Dimond colt out of Waterwings was sold at- 1000 guineas at the national yearling sales at Trentham. Among her progeny were Agrion, winner of the New Zealand Derby, Zetes, a record-priced yearling, Chile, a useful and versatile winner, Waikare, winner of the Metropolitan Handicap among other important events in Australia, Water Polo, White Wings and others.
