DEATH OF MR E. V. LUCAS. Received June 27, 9.25 a.m. LONDON, June 26. The death has occurred of Mr E. V. Lucas, the well-known English author and chairman of Methuen and Co., publishers. Edward Verrall Lucas had been a member of the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments since 1928. He was a member of tlie Crown Lands Advisory Committee, 1933, and was an Hon/ LL.D. of St. Andrew’s Uniwersity. He was also Hon. D.Litt., Oxon. Among his publications were: “The Open Road,” “Wisdom While You Wait,” “Highways and Byways In Sussex,” “A Wanderer in Holland,” “A Wanderer In London,” “Listener’s Lure,” “Character and Comedy,” “One Day and Another,” “Mr ingleside,” “Old Lamps for New,” “Tlie Phantom Journal,” “Roving East and Roving West,” “Rose and Rose,” “Giving and Receiving,” “Encounters and Diversions,” “The More I See of Men,” “A Rover I Would Be,” “Down the Sky,” “French Leaves,” “Visibility Good,” “Lemon Verbena,” “Reading, Writing and Remembering,” “Pleasure Trove,” the “Old Contemporaries.” He was editor of the first complete edition of tlie letters of Charles and Mary Lamb. His latest books were: “Only the Other Day” (1936), “London Afresh” (1937), “All of a Piece” (1937) and “Smiles Over England” (1937).
