GARRISON BAND.
ROBERT CUP COMPETITION. The 'first eolo competition;, in conjunction with the Robert Cup competition. was held in the Garrison Band Hall. ,a good representation of the public 'bevne- present. The judge was Mr A. Tonkin, who was a member of the old Municipal Band and a. member of the Palmerston . North Orchestral Society for many years.. The judge, in his remarks, said that the position of judge was not an enviable one, as he could not please everybody. _ He had given the results as he considered correct, and his. advice, especially to the younger players who had been low down on the list, was to keep on trying and not be discouraged. A vote of'thanks was moved by Mr B. Register to the judge and the accompanists, Mrs Barlow and Miss E. Thompson, and carried. The results of the competition are eg follow:
Seniors. —B. Register 1, (musical points 80, handicap 1, 81); A. Lester 2 (70 —-3—73); H. Guthrie (68 —1 — 69). This solo was in the nature of a idow melody. The winner played “If I Am Dreaming.” In the junior section the placings were: A. Thoma.s 1 (40—5 —45); K. Woods 2 (35—5—40) ; J. Kellv 3 (27 5—32). The winner played “Pasted.” .
