Miss Mary Billens, of Fitzherbert Avenue, has returned from a visit to Christchurch.

A .successful jumble sale was- held in the St. Patrick’s Church Hall yesterday, £2B being raised. This amount will go to the St. Patrick’s Hall Fund. The organiser was Mrs C. G. Hayward, m conjunction with Mrs A. ’J. McEvedy.

Members of St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild passed a vote of sympathy, at their meeting yesterday, with Mrs H. Doreen and Mrs A. Ferguson (treasurer), who were recently bereaved.

New members welcomed at yesterday’s meeting of St. Andrew’s .Guild were Mrs E, Warren. (Whakatane) land Mrs D. Fraser (Stratford). Mrs Corby was welcomed; back after an illness followed by ah absence on holiday," and Mrs Palmer from Waimea West, Nelson, was welcomed as a visitor. Miss Eileen Eliott, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Gordon Eliott, has left to visit her sister, Mrs C. H. Moore, of Singapore. Later she may visit England prior to returning home. Organised by the committee of the Takaro. Girl ‘Guides Company, under the direction of the secretary (Mrs C. M. Heath), an enjoyable dance was held in the Takaro Hall on Tuesday evening. Old-time and modern dance music was provided by a professional orchestra. The Monte Carlo waltz was ■won by Miss U. Tams and Mr R. Hobbs. Extras were provided by Mrs P. Vining, Mr and Mrs A. Barkwith, Mr Bainbridge and Mr Carr. The M.C. was Mr R. McCullough, the doorkeeper being Mr Penketh. Thanks to those present :f or their patronage were expressed by‘Mr Barkwith.
