PAHIATUA.

PRESBYTERIAN GUILD. PAHIATUA, May 14. The Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild met at the homo of Mrs L. T. Herbert; Mrs R. L. Darley presided. Several gift parcels were opened by Mesdames Herbert and G. Garrad. A competition was won by Mrs Balsom. PERSONAL. The death lias occurred, at the age of 80 years, of Mr William Henry Dempsey, who was for several years postmaster at Pahiatua. The death has taken place, at Waipuknrau, of Mrs I. Sexton, wife of Mr F. Sexton, of Pahiatua. Mr F. Clark, of Nikau, is visiting Te Aroha. Mr and Mrs W. # A. Bond, of Tokomaru, are visitors to Pahiatua, as the guests of Mr and Mrs J. A. McDonald.

HUKANUI INSTITUTE. [ The monthly meeting of the Hukanui Women’s Institute was presided Over by -Mrs ( Sutherland. A competition for jam, preserves and pickles, judged by Mrs Gardiner and Mrs Dodd, resulted: Miss B. Harrington 1, Mrs L, Wonham 2 and 3. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs Goodin, with Mrs Rasmussen second and Mrs Lawrence third. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Twentyman, Sparks and Rasmussen. Mrs Harrington presented a report on the recent federation meeting. FARMERS’ UNION BALL.

A carnival spirit prevailed in the Drill Hall, when the annual hall ot the Pahiatua branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held, the hall had been decorated with bunting and greenery by Mr E. Mexted. Extras were contributed by M‘ss L. White and Mr J. Pmhay. The M.C. s were Messrs I. Bremner and J. Aramundsen. Miss B. Boyd and Mr Ammundsen won the waltzing competition. Among those who contributed to the supper were Mesdames E. S. Holdaway, L. Holdawaj, C C. Hercock, C. J. Eising, F. W. Gaudin, J. Beech (Mangahao), E-

Eddie, J. T. Allsop, C. J. Smith (Konini) and Gl A. Allan. ANGLICAN SUNDAY SCHOOL. It is tho intention of the parishioners of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Pahiatua, to recognise the long and faithful services of Mr G. Haines as Sunday school superintendent. He has lately retired from the position after 13 years service.
