AWAHURI INSTITUTE.
The April meeting of tlie Awahuri Women’s Institute was well attended and was presided over by Airs Bond, who extended a welcome to all. A motion of sympathy was passed with Alesdames Nicholson and MacCallum and Aliss AlacCallum in their recent bereavment. Correspondence was received from the Newbury AVomcn’s Institute inviting members to their gaiety dance, letters of thanks from members of the Institute for the Blind and the agenda for the annual council meeting. It was decided to hold a euchre and dance, full particulars to be advertised later. A presentation was made to Airs McKinnon (formerly Aliss Moore) who was recently married, carrying with it best wishes for a happy and prosperous future. The potato competition was won by Airs J. Oke; flower competition, Aliss Henson 1, Aliss Pearce 2, Airs A. Bond 3; plain scones, Mrs J. Oke 1, Mrs Christian 2, Mrs A. Bond 3. A vote of thanks was accorded those who drew up the programme and also for the special decorative prize donated. A welcome was extended to Airs Brownlie’s baby daughter and best wishes for her future expressed. Mrs Child, of Milson, gave a very interesting and instructive demonstration on quilt covering and scissor work. Members were particularly indebted to Mrs Child, who very kindly came at the last moment and also gave up her own institute afternoon to help them. Next month’s competition is tlie best laundered tablecloth, special decorative class, three gent’s buttonholes, the usual flower competition and a talk 011 poultry farming. The liosteses are to be Mesdames Mair, AlacCallum and Miss AlacCallum.
