“OPEN DOOR” IN CHINA

OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL. CO-OPERATION WITH FOREIGNERS. JAPANESE AIMS OUTLINED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 22, 8.5 a.m. SHANGHAI, April 21. Mr Masaji Yoshida, chairman of the Chamber of Commerco, said to-day that Japan was honouring the “open door’’ in China. “However,” he said, “equal opportunity does not mean an equal division of interest. The ‘open door’ means respect of vested interests and recognition of the freedom of enterprise. Japanese merchants and industrialists hope to co-operate with foreigners and Chinese in the promotion of business. This does not mean an equal scale with equal results because there will be a difference in the efforts and resources of those engaged in business.”
