HIGH LEVEL OF NOTE ISSUE. STERLING EXCHANGE RISES. The weekly statement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, as at Monday, April 18, is as follows : LIABILITIES.

Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No. 5) to notes and other demand liabilities, 79.631 per cent., compared with 78.519 per cent on April 11. A further increase of £401,624 brings the total amount of sterling exchange up to £17,471,699. Gold still stands at £2,801,791. Subsidiary coin totals £226.752, a decrease of £1517. Advances to the Primary Products Marketing Department total £4,238,334, a further decrease of £267,843 Investments remain unchanged at £2,423.525. Other assets amount to £102,027, an increase of £32,345. The note issue amounts to £14,027,409, a-further increase of £89,774 to meet Easter holiday currency demands. Demand liabilities to the State total £5,750,039, an increase of £167,452. The trading banks’ reserve balances amount to £5,490,457, a decrease of £146,076. Other demand liabilities at £191,249 show an increase of £40,542. Other liabilities total £304,974, an increase of £13,518. The statement balances at £27,264,128, an increase of £164,609.
