Mr and Mrs It. Milne, of Palmerston North, are visiting "Wellington. Mr and Mrs H. Sherrill, of Palmerston North, are visiting Wellington. Mrs N. Blackmore and Miss R. Whyte, of Victoria Avenue, Palmerston North, are visiting Wellington. Mr and Mrs F. G. Stockivell, of Palmerston North, ivho were married on Faster Monday, are visiting Wellington. Mrs Stock well was Aliss Muriel O’Kane, of Palmerston North.

Misses Doreen and Patricia Hughes have returned to Palmerston North from Wellington, where they spent Easter with their grandparents, Mr and Mrs E. Bull.

Mr and Mrs 0. H. Williams and Mrs A. R. McKegg, who with Mr McKegg motored to Auckland last weekend, where Mr McKegg joined the Niagara en route to the United States, have now returned to Palmerston North.

A notable figure in the history of Wairakei and other thermal regions in the North Island, Mrs Jane Stevenson Grierson, has died at her home, Tatun cottage. Wairakei, in her eighty-ninth year. Her life was bound up with the progress of the Auckland Province, for her first husband, Mr Robert Graham, was a pioneer and a one-time superintendent of the province. Mr Graham is credited with having done more than anyone else to open up Rotorua and Wairakei to the general public as well as tourists. He died in 1885, and for several years from that date his wife managed the Hot Springs Hotel at Wairakei. She was hostess to many distinguished visitors and several Governors of New Zealand.

Mrs Margaret Molesworth, of Mount Eden. Auckland, who was a cousin of Sir Charles Fergusson, a former Gov-ernor-General of • New Zealand, has died at the age of 75. Her father was a brother of Sir James Fergusson, who also was a former Governor of New Zealand and uncle of Sir Charles. Mr George Tierney Fergusson. her father, came to New Zealand and settled in Whangaroa. He married Hinek.a. a chieftainess of the Kahungunu tribe, whose mother was a sister of Lady Carroll’s mother. Their early ancestors were the Te Kati-o-Ta.kirau. Mr Dover Nassau O’Dwyer Molesworth. whom Mrs Molesworth married in 1882. was a son of a naval surgeon who came to New Zealand in 1880. Mrs F. J. Nathan,■ of Palmerston North, is staying in Wellington. Miss Anne Hughes has returned to Palmerston North from Wellington, where she has been visiting her cousin, Miss Janet Bull.

Miss Pamela Chapman and Miss Noeline Oakley, of Palmerston North, have returned home after spending Easter with Mrs Chapman, Lower Hutt.

Miss R. Allen was appointed as a junior member of the staff of the Publib Library by the Palmerston North City Council'last evening. Prior to the commencement of business at last evening’s meeting of the City Council, the Mayor (Mr A. E. Maiisford) expressed to Cr. J. J. Stevenson the sympathy of the councillors in the recent passing of Mrs Stevenson, a resolution of condolence being passed. Cr. Stevenson voiced his gratitude to the Mayor, councillors and staff for their practical sympathy m Mrs Stevenson’s illness.

Mrs V. Rollerson, of Palmerston North, the Manawatu and West Coast (North Island) woman sprint champion, competed with conspicuous success at the Tauranga amateur athletic 6ports on Easter Monday. Mrs Rollerson won the women’s lone jump with 16ft 9in, the women’s 75 yards open handicap in 8.4-ssec, and the women’s 100 yards open handicap in II 3-ssec, and was placed second in the women’s 150 yards open handicap.
