NEW UNIFORMS.

FOR MILITARY FORCES. KHAKI TO BLUE SERGE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 22. The issue of a new uniform to the military forces has been approved by the Government. The Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) stated to-day: “The new uniform is to be worn for ceermonial parades and, with slight variations, as undress, for walking out and social functions. The material will be of blue serge, the jacket being of similar design to the present khaki service jacket. The trousers will have coloured stripes appropriate to the arm of the service. The head dress will consist of a blue felt hat with a puggaree for full dress parades and a field service cap somewhat similar to the glengarry is to be provided for a walking out dress. “The puggaree and the stripe down the seam of the trousers will be of colours appropriate to the various arms of the service,” added the Minister. “A khaki web belt with a bayonet will he worn for ceremonial parades, and a blue serge belt for social functions and walking out,. The present intention is to complete the issue of the new uniforms, which are being made in New Zealand, over a period of three years, and it is expected that issues to the selected units will commence within four months.”
