PERSONAL.
Sir Thomas Wilford, the former High Commissioner for New Zealand, who has been on a short visit to England where he has been staying with his daughter, Mrs E. Penrose-Fitz-gerald left for the Dominion on April 14. Lady Wilford will stay in London for some time. On the recommendation of the works committee, Mr W. L. Cutten (Palmerston North) was appointed first engineer at the power house, out of 30 applications, and Mr W. Brown (Dunedin), foreman at the gasworks, out of 13 applications, at the meeting of the Palmerston North City Council last night. Rev. Michael Underhill, M.A., arrived at Wellington from England yesterday to take up his duties as vicar of Raetihi-Ohakune. Mr Underhill took his M.A. degree at Queen’s College, Oxford, and also studied at »\ estcott ....House, Cambridge. He occupied a curacy in Cumberland for two years and subsequently assisted Rev. Mr Clayton in Toe H work. The Minister of Lands and actingNative Minister (Hon. E. Langstone) will pay a visit to small farm blocks in Ohakune, Taumarunui, anti Te Kuiti districts next week. He will he accompanied by the Under-Secretary for Lands (Mr W. Robertson), Under-Sec-retary to the Native Department (Mr 0- N. Campbell), private secretary to the Native Minister (Mr H. R. H. Balneavis), and the private secretary to the Minister of Lands (Mr E. 1 • Wakelin).
