WASHED OFF BREAKWATER.
ELDERLY MAN DROWNED. SON’S NARROW ESCAPE. Per Press Association. OAMARU. April 18. James Chalmers, aged 70, of Oamaru, and a son, James Chalmers, of Dunedin, when fishing from the Oamaru breakwater on Saturday afternoon, were washed into the harbour by a big wave. Mr Chalmers, senr., was drowned, hut his son managed to grasp a rope and haul himself to safety.
