TERRACE END.

OLD MEMBERS RETIRE.

At the Terrace End School meeting the chairman of the committee (Mr W. B. Tennent) presided. There was a good attendance despite the adverse weather conditions..

The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report as previously published ill the “Standard,” commented that the past year had not been particularly outstanding. It had been one of benefit to the school and pleasure to the committee and staff, however. Three teachers who had long records of service on tlie staff had left. He paid a tribute to their able and efficient'work. Also they had lost three members of the committee. Mr J. Davidson had been on the committee for 21 years (applause), Mr R. Luke for 10 years and Air J. K. Paton for seven years (during which time he had acted as treasurer). Air Davidson was on the committee in the time of Air J. A. Nash—a long time ago and he had been a very useful and active member. It was unusual to lose so many valuable workers in one year. The speaker also referred appreciatively to the work of the ladies’ committee and the co-operation of the headmaster and his staff. For seven years the school had been graded excellent.

The report was adopted. Later Air Tennent referred to the work of the secretary (All- Blackwood) who, he said, was one of the finest secretaries the school had ever had. He proposed a motion of thanks and this was carried by acclamation. Another motion of thanks was passed to the retiring members of the committee.

Air R. C. Donald also joined in voicing appreciation of the services of Miss Al. O’Donnell, Aliss K. Billens and Air D. C. Pryor (the former teachers). Aliss O’Donnell had left her mark and many adults had not forgotten her work among the younger children. Miss O’Donnell was a member of the staff for 37 years, Aliss Billens for 27 years and Air Pryor for eight years. Thanks were returned by the headmaster (Mr A. W. Thompson) to the chairman for his remarks in regard to the staff and also on behalf of tlie three members of the staff who had left. He also thanked the caretaker (Mr G. Lang) for his fine work. He moved a motion of appreciation, which was carried unanimously. Alotions of thanks were also carried for the services of the ladies’ committee, the caretaker, the Press and the chair. The following candidates were elected as the committee for the forthcoming two years: —Messrs W. B. Tennent, E. G. Bennett, H. C. Blackwood, H. L. Cunningname, R. C. Donald, H. D. Alilne (sitting members), J. Fyfe, L. Gardner and E. P. Wix. There were twelve nominations.

Subsequently a meeting of the committee was held at which the following appointments were made:—Chairman, Mr W. B. Tennent; secretary, Air H. O. R. Blackwood; treasurer, Air H. L. Cunningliame; delegates to the Alanawatu-Oroua School Committees’ Association, Messrs Tennent, Cunninghame and Fyfe; visiting committee for the next month, Messrs Cunninghame and Fyfe.
