ODDFELLOWS’ LODGE
CONFERENCE AT WOODYILLE. Per Press Association. . WOODVILLE, March 19. 3 he sixtieth annual conference of the Hawke’s Bay District of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows is being held, with the Grand Master,- Bro. P. J. Priest (Hastings) presiding over delegates representing twelve lodges from Wairoa to Woodville, including Loyal Napier (established 1856), Meeanee (1871), Abbotsford. Waipawa (1873) and Clive (1876) which, together with Clyde Lodge, the old name for Wairoa, replaced by Loyal Te Reinga in 1908 came under the jurisdiction of the Wellington District prior to August, 1878, when separation was agreed upon.*; The first five lodges had 327 members and £2612 sick and funeral funds compared with the present 2650 (in 1 ' eluding 224 lady) members and £86,780 respectively. Sickness benefits in 1878-9 were £lB4. and last year, £3503. Loyal Hastings (1878), Tavistock, Waipukurau (1879), Woodville (1880), ltuanine, Tikokino (1885) Forest Home. Ormondville (1887), Dannevirke (1888) and Takapau (1926. replacing the earlier lodge) complete the list.
The Mayor, Mr H. P. Horne welcomed the assemblage, as also'did Bro. F. D. Mackie., P.D.'G.M., secretary of the Loyal Woodville Lodge. Bro. C. H. White (Meeanee Lodge) was elected Grand Master, and Bro. J. Wliarmby P.G. (Loyal Tavistock) as DeputyGrand Master.
