TO CONTINUE FLIGHT.
MR BROADBENT’S PLANS. BATA AHA, March 19. The Australian aviator Mr H. F. Broadbent, who was brought to Bima by a Dutch Navy ’plane, hopes to be able to continue his flight after fitting a new propeller, which will be ordered from Sourabaya, where he arrived today. The Qantas ’plane which found Mr Broadbent carried also Mr Dismore, as-sistant-general manager of Imperial Airways, who said Mr Broadbent’s ’plane was distinctly visible at 11 o’clock yesterday morning between Torokerita and Nangalele against the slope of a mountain at Amarcdo; also Mr Broadbent’s green shirt was recognised. The ’plane apparently had only a propeller damaged. Mr Broadbent, who was accompanied by six natives and one officer, was furnished with oranges, bananas, etc. The pilot of the Qantas’ ’{ilane heard about Mr Broadbent, being missing in the Timor at lvupang and returned to search along the Timor coast. AVithin a few hours he located Mr Broadbent on the coast of Flores, where the mountains rise suddenly above sea level. Apparently Mr Broadbent made a forced landing on a native path to the mountains. The ’plane was apparently damaged. The Qantas pilot threw out cigarettes and a message of congratulations.
He spotted also a Dutch officer, whereupon he continued his flight.
