SCHOOL PICNIC. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, March 19. The annual picnic was held under ideal conditions on Thursday, when a largo crowd of children, parents and friends were conveyed by cars to Marton Block, some six or seven miles beyond Apiti. Turning in at flic bridge, the party trekked some distance up the river, and halted at an ideal site. Swimming was enjoyed by many, and then lunch was served. After lunch, races conducted by Messrs A. w. Bird and J. R. Osborne and members of the school committee were indulged in and every child encouraged to take part. Parents were able to look on from a natural terrace which overlooked the green flat by the river, and the ideal surroundings and weather made the day most pleasant. The annual meeting ot the Table Flat Women’s Institute was hold on J hursday last. Mrs H. Jensen presided and the secretary (M’ss Eliot) presented the annual report. The balance-sheet read by the treasurer (Miss A. Kearney) showed a satisfactory position. The president, in a short address, thanked her committee and members for their staunch co-operation during the year. Mrs E. E. Short, a member of the North Wellington provincial executive, conducted the election of the new committee, which resulted as iollows: Mesdarhes Miller, Hogan, H. Jensen, Misses Eliot, Hogan, Pettigrew, A. Kearney and JE. Jensen. Mis.; Eliot accepted the office of president. Mrs Short addressed the meeting on the recent visit of Miss K. Courtney to Palmerston North, also on Mies Floury, of Rhodesia, a sister of Rev. F, E. Floury, of Kimbolton. The speaker also touched on many points in the work of the institutes, Mrs Short and Mrs Mcßetli (Feiiding) judged the competitions and warmly complimented members on the quality and quantity of the entries, which were a credit to their efforts.
