CITY SILVER MEMBERS. The Palmerston North City Silver Band members and their friends held a very successful picnic at Bledisloe Park on Sunday. A large party travelled by bus and private cars, arriving well before mid-day Instruments were taken out and an impromptu concert of the lighter class of music was given. After lunch a programme of sports for both young and old was carried out, and it included some quite now and novel events. One that caused much merriment was the race for bandsmen playing a well-known and popular march. A stop in the playing disqualified the entrant. Ihe ladies had the judging of this event and keen, judges they proved to he. One competition that brought forth surprisingly good results was a short solo from memory. Every bandsman piesent, including boys from the junior section, took part. The placings were left to the judgment of three capable ladies and their awards proved verypopular. For the donation of a number of appropriate prizes thanks were extended to Mesdames A. Abrahams and C. A. Harris. The very evident enjovment of all present was full recompense for the effort put forth by those responsible for the arrangements. The playing of several wellknown hymns by tlie band m the beautiful setting provided by Bieclisloe Park brought to a close a very pleasant day.
