AMERICA'S NON-RECOGNITION
• ANSTRO-GERMAN UNION. WASHINGTON, March 19. The Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull) li as indicated that the United States will not recognise, at least at preseut, the legality of Germany’s an-
nexntion of Austria, says a United Press correspondent. This followed an intimation from the German Ambassador (Herr Prochnik) that the affairs of the Austrian Legations had been absorbed by the German Embassy. Mr Hull indicated that the United States Government would treat the German Embassy as the representative mission of Austria. This is a mere matter of mechanics and does not involve the larger question of the legality of the union between the two countries. “The extent to which the Austrian or similar incidents are calculated to endanger the maintenance of pence and the preservation of the principles in which this Government believes is a matter of serious concern to the United States,” Mr Hull added.
