STRONGER COMPETITION. TO-DAY’S TIMARU AUCTION. Per Press Association. TIMARU, March 7. The second wool sale of the season at Timaru was held to-day when 23,075 bales were offered to a full bench of buyers. Competition was more widespread than at any sale since Christmas. Halfbred was about Id dearer than at tho recent sale in Christchurch, while crossbreds were from par to a farthing dearer. Up to the end of the third ; catalogue Merinos were unchanged, and were fairly hard to dispose of. Crossbred were in keen demand. Competition came from Germany, France and Bradford, the latter being more strongly in the market than at any sale this season. Dominion mills were comparatively quiet, picking up a few super lots suitable for their requirements. Japan also picked up lin odd lot or two, but the quantity was limited. Compared with the December sale all wools can bo quoted 2d to 3d cheaper. Top price for Merino was 14d and for halfbreds 14fd. Corriedale, of which there was not a great deal forward, sold from lid %o 131 d. Crossbreds reached llld, and very few lots of this type of wool failed to find buyers.
