FIGHTING IN SHANSI.
CHINESE ACTIVITIES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 5. The Chinese Consul has received the following cablegram from Hankow:— The latest report from South Shansi is that, although the Chinese troops have evacuated the railway line between Linshih and Lumfun, they are in full occupation on both sides of the Tungpo Railway, and are engaged in severe fighting with the enemy. The mountainous country of Shansi will be most suitable for guerrilla warfare and the enemy’s plan to occupy the whole of Shansi cannot be easily attained. Our reinforcements in North Honan have crossed the river in force and are advancing towards the Taoching Railway. The right flank has made rapid jn-ogress and reached the vicinity of of Taokowchen. The enemy has been repeatedly repulsed in ' the northern and southern sectors of the Tsinpu line and has suffered heavy casualties.
