AUSTRALIA CONSULTED. Received March 7, 12.20 p.m. CANBERRA, March 7. The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) has issued a statement that the Commonwealth Government was told before Mr R. A. Eden resigned that Britain proposed to open negotiations immediately for an agreement with Italy. The Australian Ministers dal not know at that stage that there was any difference in the points of view of Mr Chamberlain and Mr Eden. Australia was being consulted about the negotiations with Italy and was being given every opportunity of expressing an opinion on the aspects affecting Australian interests.
