WOODVILLE COUNTY'S CONCERN DANNEVIRKE LOAN PROPSAL. Further criticism of the proposal of the Dannevirke Hospital Board to raise a loan of £19,000 for building additions and improvements was voiced at yesterday’s meeting of the Woodville County Council. “There seems to be a mistaken idea in Dannevirke,” said Cr. G. Peebles, “that we in Woodville are in favour of the scheme. We should at least make our position clear.” The chairman (Captain M. 0. Grainger) said it was certainly a mistaken idea, as he considered that the Woodville Council, to a man, had been against the scheme. Cr. Cattanach spoke in the same strain.

The chairman: No vote was taken on the day on which we discussed the matter first, but that did not mean we were in favour of it. We were all against the expenditure of the extra £19,000. Cr. Cattanach: It is going to put the rate up a considerable amount. Cr. Morgan: It has gone too far now to do anything about it. Cr. Cattanach : Wo try hard to keep out rates down and this seems very hard on the ratepayers. The chairman: The board is elected by the ratepayers. Cr. Morgan : No motion of protest was passed when the matter was discussed and that was taken to mean that Woodville was not against the Hospital Board’s proposal.
