CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, March 4. Mr J. D. Ormond has withdrawn his nomination for selection as candidate of the National Party for the Waipawa seat at the forthcoming general election. His decision was announced in a letter to the chairman of the Waipawa branch of the National Party for the reason : “I am doing so because I feel at this juncture that nothing should occur which might in any way jeopardise the return of the National candidate in this electorate.” MASTERTON SEAT. MR P. R. WELCH TO STAND. Per Press Association. MASTERTON, March 4. It is understood that the nomination of Mr P. R. Welch, of Masterton, as the National Party’s candidate for the Masterton electorate at the general election, is to be considered by the selection committee toward the end of this month. Other nominations are also proposed.
Mr Welch, who is well known throughout the district, is a member of the Masterton County Council, the Wairaparapa Hospital Board, and is president of the Masterton A. and P. Association.
